Big Kids Newsletter

Hazel Creek is proud to announce that we have more elementary kids this year than ever before. We are developing a program this year based on the desires of the kids involved. So far we have come up with several innovative ideas and will implement as many as we possibly can in order to make the time spent at Hazel Creek a lot of fun and full of adventure.

On a daily basis this is what is happening: We start our day with chores on the farm. We care for the various animals, tend to the gardens and help with many of the duties necessary for keeping the school running smoothly. We are a very important integral part of HCM and keep the heartbeat of the school going strong. Most of the children attending our program have been here for a big part of their lives, (for some, their entire lives) and it feels like family.

Every morning we are rewarded with an activity of our choice. We can go swimming, horseback riding, (on Tues), do an art project, a seasonal project, go for a hike with the dogs, or spend the time exploring the woods. Chores will normally last until 8am and the activity will then go from 8am-9am before boarding the bus.

Upon arrival from the public schools in the afternoon, we will again have the opportunity to ride horses on Tuesdays, go swimming, or have a special project to work on. Anyone needing to do their homework can do so before they participate in the activity. We will provide a snack to all those who get off the bus.

Please help your child remember the following: Always pack a swim suit and towel EVERY DAY, pack an extra snack if your child is super hungry after school, dress for the weather so we can be outside and let us know if there is anything you would like your child to do during their time here. Please update your emergency information and fill out a new form. (The forms are in the lobby).

Dates to Remember: Sept. 19th is half day early dismissal; please sign your child up on our sign-up sheet if they will be here that day. We will be having a Harvest Fair for the whole school that day; every one is welcome to bring in a “Creature” from home. We will be making a scare crow for our project. Thank you for participating in our program this year. If you think of any additional ideas let us know. We will be sending out a monthly newsletter to keep the parents informed about our latest adventures.

All my love,

Janice
